Design pioneer Alvar Aaltos asymmetrical waves (aalto in Finnish) won the 1937 Paris World Fair. In the decades since, theyve become an icon of Scandinavian interior design. Taking inspiration from the thousands of lakes in his native Finland, Aaltos waves combine function and sculpture. Each Aalto vase goes through a multi-step production process at the Iittala Glass Factory.

First, the vase is mouthblown, then hand cut before going through several polishings. mouth blown to a wooden mould according to very original 1930's production method.
